Each specialised vehicle is fitted to the back with two shunting winches which can be operated either jointly or severally. The shunting winches are driven by three hydraulic motors. For loads up to 4 tons only one motor is actuated and for loads in excess of 4 tons the other motor is gradually activated and automatically joins in. The hydraulic brakes prevent any possibility of failure under load. Special rollers make it possible to turn the cables at 90o permitting the recovery vehicle to take any position. The hydraulic stabilizers ensure optimum vehicle stability during operation. All motors benefit from double control units (on the vehicle and remote) so that the operator can supervise the recovery operation at all times. These vehicles are all equipped with powerful flashlights for work at night, signalling systems (beacons, etc.). The two shunting winches are complete with a pneumatic free run for a fast unwinding of the cables. The main beam of the crane operates at a maximum lifting height of 5.2 m.
The triple, hydraulic extension boom has a span of 3,800 mm for lifting the broken down driving axle in order to permit vehicle towing. Each specialised vehicle has a support for counterweights up to 1.5 tons. All hydraulic and pneumatic valves are double. The vehicles are complete with all the electric and pneumatic couplings for the towed vehicle to compensate for the lack of pneumatic and electric supplies of the damaged vehicle.
Benefits deriving from the use of specialised vehicles
- Best, state of the art technologies at European standards; limited damages brought to the broken down vehicles through the versatile retention and towing devices;
- Several intervention units in one vehicle;
- Possibility to repatriate the Romanian vehicles which break down or are involved in traffic incidents abroad and to repatriate to the countries of origin the foreign vehicles broken down in Romania;
- The specialised vehicles meet all the conditions and requirements imposed by the Health and Safety Regulations offering maximum safety during the vehicle recovery and towing operations
